The Peer Education Program promotes alternatives to alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and teaches middle school students about responsible decision-making around substance abuse issues.

High school student volunteers, known as Peer Educators, are trained to conduct workshops to teach middle school students to cope with peer pressure and stress and to make healthy decisions.

The program also provides a list of resources that supply additional information, support and counseling in the community.

Treatment Director, Outpatient & Re
The Outpatient Unit provides individual, group, and family counseling in a medically supervised setting. Evaluation of a client's medical status is an integral part of the total treatment process. CARS offers walk in assessment and treatment on demand for drug and alcohol issues. To address families in recovery, CARS offers a six week program called the Family Rebuilding Program. Anyone who has a family member, significant other, or friend who is struggling with the disease of addiction is invited to join the program for support and education. This program is free, open to the public, and participants do not need to be a client of CARS. The group meets Tuesday evenings 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for six weeks. The meetings are open-ended, repeating every six weeks. Participants can enter the sessions on any week as the program is continuous. Clinical Intervention Services are offered based on the best practice Love First Clinical Intervention Model (www.lovefirst.net). This model of intervention which has been designated by Hazelden as a best practice and is defined by one rule: to persuade an individual suffering from addiction to enter treatment while preserving their dignity and worth as a human being. CARS trains and supports the family and other significant people in the addicted individual's life to lovingly and effectively persuade that individual to enter treatment.

The Circle of Recovery is a group of African-American men recovering from alcohol and drug addictions. The group uses the 12-step program as a foundation for recovery, but is not affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or any other 12-step program.

The Van Dyke Addiction Treatment Center is a 30-bed, tobacco-free, residential center operated by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). The Van Dyke Center provides a comprehensive treatment program to addicts, their families and significant others. The Center offers separate treatment programs for women and men, designed for the special needs of each gender. There is an emphasis on using medication-assisted recovery, including Suboxone, as prescribed by the Van Dyke ATC physician.
 

KidsPeace - Residential Programs

KidsPeace provides a number of specialized residential treatment options for children from age 6 to 17 with psychological and behavioral disorders. - Dual Diagnosis Residential Program offers 90-day Therapeutic Residential Treatment for males and females with a drug and/or alcohol and mental health diagnosis. - Residential Treatment provides 24-hour psychiatric care for youth. - Emergency Group Care Program offers crisis stabilization services for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral and social adaptation problems. Serves males and females ages 10 to 18 who cannot be placed in outpatient community programs. - Intensive Residential Treatment Program provides 24-hour psychiatric care for clients requiring more intensive clinical, recreational and educational services, and supervision than standard residential treatment can provide. - Community Residential Program offers Therapeutic Residential services in a community setting for males ages 9 to 17. - KidsHope Specialized Residential Treatment Program provides structured 24-hour clinical, educational and psychiatric care for low-functioning males ages 12 to 17 with behavioral disorders. - Sex Offender Specialized Residential Program serves adolescent males ages 12 to 18 with sexual issues.
